Studio Gerrit Schreurs
Ter ere van het Internationale Jaar van Glas van de VN presenteert Museum JAN de tentoonstelling Barbara Nanning – Bewegende Stilte. De tentoonstelling toont het meest recente werk van glaskunstenaar Barbara Nanning (1957). In haar driedimensionale sculpturen combineert ze altijd traditie en innovatie. Ze heeft nieuwe, inventieve technieken ontwikkeld in samenwerking met de meest ervaren glasblazers van Tsjechië. De innovatieve architectuur- en interieurstudio Atelier Tomas Dirrix heeft een verfrissend 3D-tentoonstellingsontwerp gecreëerd.
Traditie en experiment
Naast de traditionele technieken die de basis vormen van haar artistieke praktijk, speelt experimenteren een sleutelrol in Nannings werk. In al haar werk probeert ze nieuwe manieren te vinden om kleur en licht in het glas vast te leggen. Dit geldt ook voor haar nieuwe serie Chimaera, een coproductie met de Tsjechische slijper Aleš Zvěřina, waarin ze werkt met anna-groen glas. Onder ultraviolet licht heeft dit groen gekleurde glas een fluorescerend effect in het donker. De gezaagde en gesneden facetten in het Anna-groene glas creëren talloze optische effecten en geven het werk extra diepte. Voor haar nieuwste serie Byzantium experimenteert Nanning met vergulde glasdraden die ze tot patronen smelt, geïnspireerd op de Byzantijnse cultuur.

Moving Stillness
Nanning always starts from a circle, a point of stillness, which she then develops further in the liquid glass. This results in all kinds of organic forms, based on crystals, plants and micro-organisms. She tries to capture the movement of nature and bring it to a standstill; a moment in time captured in a glass object.
Barbara Nanning
After graduating from the Amsterdam Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Barbara Nanning gained recognition for her ceramic works. In Leerdam, she worked with glass for the first time, a material until then unknown to the artist. From that moment on, glass became the exclusive material she focused on. She very quickly achieved international fame in glass art and was introduced to sophisticated techniques, especially in the Czech Republic. Her versatile body of work can be found in many museum and private collections in the Netherlands and abroad.
