As part of the exhibition Moving Stillness, Museum JAN is organising a Q&A tour with glass artist Barbara Nanning and Jan de Bruijn, curator of applied arts for the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. In an interactive interview between Nanning and De Bruijn, visitors will hear a personal explanation of her inventive designs. De Bruijn and Nanning will discuss traditional (Czech) glass techniques, as well as the experimentation that plays a leading role in her work. How can we recognise this experimentation in her latest designs? What are her sources of inspiration?
Barbara Nanning
After graduating from the Amsterdam Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Barbara Nanning gained recognition for her ceramic works. In Leerdam, she started working with glass for the first time, the material she would focus on exclusively from then on. She achieved international fame in glass art and was introduced to sophisticated techniques, especially in the Czech Republic, the centre of the glass world. Her versatile body of work can be found in many museum and private collections in the Netherlands and abroad.
Jan de Bruijn
Jan de Bruijn is curator of applied art & design for the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. De Bruijn is an art historian specialised in design & decorative arts. His Master's research on the collection of applied art and design at the Gemeentemuseum between 1980 and 2010 made quite an impression. De Bruijn is not only a curator, but he is also involved as a board member and editor of Designgeschiedenis Nederland (Design History of the Netherlands), an association that promotes research and publications in the field of design.
