From 28 May to 3 July 2016, Museum Jan van der Togt dedicated an exhibition to the work of glass artist Mari Mészàros.

Mari Mészàros (1949) was born in the Hungarian town of Tiszaszentimre. From 1972 - 1977 she received her glass training at the art academy in Budapest. Since 1980, Mészàros has been living and working in the Netherlands. She has already won several important art prizes.

Mészàros has always been fascinated by the arrogant survival power of objects that carry time, history and human life. The imperfection of reality moves her more than the depiction of it. The fragment that carries the "whole" hidden within itself intrigues her more than the "whole" itself.

In her work, Mészàros turns living people into objects, into future documents of their current life. But these objects are different from the archaeological finds in peat, ice and preservatives. From the plaster prints that preserve the personal physical dimensions, she makes sculptures that represent eternal, universal human feelings.

The work of Mészàros is represented in numerous international private and museum collections. Museum Jan van der Togt also has a glass sculpture of her in the collection.
