Lecture - The Quietude of Otto B. de Kat

  • Museum JAN 50 Dorpsstraat Amstelveen, NH, 1182 JE Netherlands (map)

Otto B. de Kat, Still life, 1932, oil on canvas, Frans Hals Museum Haarlem.

Which contemporaries and art movements inspired Otto B. de Kat (1907–1995), and which artists, like him, sought to capture the "soul of things"? Find out during this art history lecture!

Art historian Mirelle Nunes will guide you through the paintings of De Kat, in which the artist explored various new artistic movements of his time, such as pointillism, cubism, and expressionism. His serene landscapes, portraits, and still lifes, influenced by greats like Matisse, Cézanne, and Mondrian, were brought to life with loose brushwork and beautiful color planes.

Mirelle Nunes is a heritage specialist and art historian, and through her company Kunst uit Zeist, she gives lectures at current exhibitions across the Netherlands.

Walk-in: 19:15, start 19:30
