Spring has begun and the Blossom Park in the Amsterdamse Bos park is in full bloom again. As many as 400 cherry trees, donated to Amstelveen by the Japan Women's Club (JWC), will turn soft pink for two to three weeks. Museum JAN is a 12-minute walk from the park and currently shows an exhibition by Dutch Japanese fashion designer Lisa Konno. The exhibition The Porcelain Body features brand new work by the artist, which she developed in Arita, Japan. In it, the artist reflects on ideals of beauty in both Japan and the Netherlands.
Cherry cake and Japanese tea
Lunchroom La Gare, located in Amstelveen's Old Village, has been providing delicious coffee and cake to Museum JAN visitors on weekends for some time now. Especially for Hanami Matsure, or the Cherry Blossom Festival with which the Japanese celebrate the arrival of spring, La Gare will offer fresh cherry cake and Japanese tea at Museum JAN from Wednesday 20 March through Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
