Amstelveen Orange 80 years of freedom
In 1945, the liberation skirt became the symbol of the liberation celebration after the second world war: a patchwork skirt full of stories, memories and life lessons. Join this old tradition and show what freedom means to you.
Mies Boissevain Van Lennep devised a way during this liberation period to celebrate celebrate freedom and bring people together. Together, women made cheerful patchwork leftover fabrics into cheerful patchwork skirts as a symbol of unity. During the making process, they shared their stories.
Just like then, we come to the JAN JUNIOR atelier of Museum JAN in Amstelveen.
to share stories. In the atelier we don't make a skirt but your own freedom apron. We invite everyone young and old to to work together. Thus, we like to reflect on the meaning of freedom, and the stories that bring us closer together bring us closer together
Children's aprons, made by Ons Tweede Thuis in Amstelveen, will be available, but feel free to bring your own apron and patches of fabric. The aprons can be pasted and worked on with needle and thread. We work without sewing machines.
